Pixar Cars – The Story

The story begins at the Pistons Cup Championships where Lightning McQueen, a snobbish rookie racer, finished in a three-way tie with veteran Chick Hicks and defending champion “The King”. Quite impressed with his own performance, he was in such a mood of self-celebration that he neglected his supporters and his crew.

On the road to California for the tie-breaker, McQueen had an accident and found himself detoured to the rural town of Radiator Springs on Route 66. Upon entry into the town, he had caused quite some damage to the roads, and was therefore compelled by the law to stay in the town to repair them. But he was in such urgency to leave that he rushed through the repairs and made a big mess instead. The residents of Radiator Springs were most appalled by his selfishness and irresponsibility, but Doc Hudson, the town judge, challenged him to a race around a dirt track. McQueen skidded off a turn and lost the race. As a result, he had to bide his time and repair the road again.

While in town, he got to know more about the inhabitants of Radiator Springs. Before long, he found himself attracted to Sally Carrera an elegant 2002 Porsche who abandoned her successful career in the big city to find meaning and rejuvenation in this rural town. There was also Mater, a rusty old truck who despite his playfulness would be a loyal friend until the very end. And the greatest revelation of them all is the secret past of Doc Hudson, who was once upon a time the great Hudson Hornet, legendary Pistons Cup champion. Apart from driving tips, McQueen had learned the most valuable lesson of life from his new-found friends; that life is not all about making the finish-line, it is about the meaningful things you find on the road that makes your life more endearing.

When McQueen had finally finished repairing the road, the media and car-racing community had caught up with him in Radiator Springs. By then, he was quite uncomfortable with the attention that he used to adore, feeling heady and knowing not what to do. But encouraged by his new friends, he would make his return to finish the tie-breaker.

On the day of the big race, the whole town from Radiator Springs turned up to show their support, providing McQueen with a most efficient pit crew and a legion of new fans. The race went on with “The King” being a big threat for most of the race, but with a few new tricks in his bag, McQueen managed to keep him at bay. Down the final straight, McQueen was ahead by quite a comfortable margin but “The King” had shrugged Chick Hicks off the track and it seemed Chick was headed for a fatal crash. At that, McQueen pulled his brakes just inches from the finish line, turned around and dashed to the rescue of Chick Hicks.

As the scoreboard would have it, “The King” won the race and the trophy. However, the celebration centered on Lightning McQueen who demonstrated the spirit of the true champion, and won the hearts of the fans.
